A Student's Thoughts

I was sitting by myself studying for my upcoming exams,when my 3 year old cousin sister came to me to try to cajole me into playing tag with her.I picked her up put her on the bed and explained what exams were and how i was studing my texts so i could pass them.Then she asked me a question which threw me off completely,she asked me 'why?'
Why?Why do we study?To get a job is the immediate thought,but then,do you have to study to get a well paying job?I mean,look around,there are so many people that dont have fancy degrees or diplomas but are still respected by society and earn 6 figure salaries.I decided to ask some of my classmates the next day their purpose for studying...I asked almost evryone,from the popular jocks to the lonesome nerds.Almost evryone came up with the same answer-to get a job.But as i said,ALMOST evryone gave me the same answer.I was in the toilet washing my face and asking my friend this question when one of the 'rough' dudes who was smoking in one of the stalls came out.He overheard the question,turned towards us and said,"I dont study much,but you wanna know why i study what i study?"After pausing for our nods he replied,"I study because I want to know what I dont know."With that he turned around and left us there.
In these modern times how many of us can boast about this fact?How many of us actually want to study to learn something and not merely to get a lot of cash?Nowadays if the job isnt well paying its unacceptable!Gone are the days where people studied things that interested them,things that captivated their minds and filled their souls!Now,to the tune of some paper currency we are studying what others want us to study.We are puppets in this education system.How many of us would rather paint or do pottery or even carpentry!But then,they dont teach this in college do they?How many of us would like to learn to play a musical instrument?But no,there is no time for that when we are juggling classes,tutions,homework and tests.
This education system was designed to make us a one type of people,people who will earn a lot of money and get white collar jobs.And they have done it,we have turned into one kind of mindless people,slogging on to what they've made us think is the ultimate goal.Yeah we're one alright,but we are people who dont know who we are!We have lost our identity.
